Christmas message from our President
25/12/09
Well it is time to reflect on the first half of the 2009/10 season, 9th September seems a long while ago.
The season started with the absence of our Chairman Karen who was on her LE-JOG cycle adventure. We all know how successful this was and she has raised over £1000 for her nominated charities so far. Her talk on her adventure was supported by an audience approaching 80 in the Grange Liberty Hall. Those attending were able to experience the full potential of our Digital projector using our Lottery funded 10x 8 ft screen. What a fitting way to give it its first public outing.
The first night saw a large number of new members and I hope you are all enjoying the programme and getting more enjoyment from your photography. I appreciate there are a number of people new to Digital Photography but the club has members that can help you with your problems, so please ask.
The workshops are proving popular and the feedback we have received is that those attending have found them beneficial. A big thank you to Karen for her time and enthusiasm in arranging these, and to Hilly and Judi for their assistance.
Please bring along your problems and we will do our best to help. (Editor – he means photographic problems!)
Our speaker Nick Scott cancelled on the evening before his talk but fortunately Glyn Edmonds agreed to give his Route 66 talk at such short notice which we greatly appreciated.
November saw our first entry into the DPI Mix & Match competition with Bognor hosting and Wittering also taking part.
As this was our first, it involved a fair bit of work in collecting digital images from members in the required format under Karen’s expert guidance. 13 members provided images for selection which took place with the help of Hilly, Rachel and Judi.
The evening saw a very different approach by each club, Wittering using Slides and Bognor using a similar Digital projector to our own but with two lap top computers. The MCC experts produced a performance to be proud of as they exploited the technology to the full.
Bognor experienced some technical hitches, obviously no such problems for Wittering as their slide system was well used. Although we came last the other clubs commented on the quality of our entries and presentation, reflected by the hard work done in preparation for the evening, again many thanks.
Judi was most impressed by Bognor’s name badge management system and after making some enquiries has obtained some excellent cases which are now in full use.
The talks and competitions have been well supported and it is good to see a large number of new members participating in competitions.
The committee welcome the member’s comments and suggestions regarding future events.
We have accepted the invitation to join as members of The Regnum Crouch group of West Sussex clubs and will be participating in the Print & DPI competitions along with the other 10 clubs, who are within an area between Burgess Hill in the East, Horsham in the North, Worthing & Chichester In the South. Karen and I attended the DPI event at Horsham in March and thought that with the quality of work our members were producing we were ready to challenge the other clubs. We look forward to an interesting year ahead.
We ended with an excellent social evening and light hearted Mix & Match, under the expert and humourus control of Karen (HAPPY, as she is known to her friends.)
From the comments and feed back I have received a good evening was had by all. Special thanks to Karen for organising the event and acquiring the provisions, and to Rachel for attending to the catering arrangements.
Finally grateful thanks to Tony Moulton-Barrett for always arriving early to ensure the display boards and equipment are in place. Thanks also to Tony Jones who has provided invaluable help to us all, much of which may not be evident but vital to the smooth running of the club.
Also many thanks to the other committee and club members for their help and support so far. We can look forward to enjoying an exciting second half of the season.
With all good wishes to you all for Christmas and 2010.
John Harrison
President
