Hilly Hoar being presented the Rotherhill Cup by David Burton
Hilly Hoar being presented the Rotherhill Cup by David Burton
The start of 2010 didn’t go quite as planned, with Round 3 of our League Competition and a Workshop having to be cancelled due to snow and ice, and our first speak of the year, Toby Melville, had to postpone his talk until 14 April.

Fortunately Leo Rich, who was due to speak in April, was able to swap his date with Toby.

Round 4 of the League for The Rotherhill Cup, sponsored by David Burton of Rotherhill Nurseries, Stedham went off with no hitches and the judge, Mike Constable, awarded a first to Hilly Hoar with her picture entitled “Be Ready to Duck” an exciting picture of a low flying owl.

On 17th February we had an excellent illustrated talk on landscape photography by Nick Jenkins of Freespirit Images. Nick’s slant on his presentation was to talk through why he had taken the photograph, sometimes showing virtually the same image, but shot in a different way and saying why he felt one had more impact than the other.

Our membership has continued to grow throughout this season having now reached 63 – 13 more than at this time in 2009, despite some members not renewing due to other commitments!

On 3rd March we had our first ever Digital Projected Image Competition, judged by Bryan Powell. From 52 images he finally shortlisted just five for places.
1 Clive Blott (Easebourne) “Angel Falls”
2 Graham Crouch (Fernhurst) “Tabatha”
3 Judi Lion (Trotton) “Hillfoot Farm”
HC Hilly Hoar (Petwoth) “Marching By”
HC Judi Lion “Wild Water”

Our next speaker evenings are on 17th March – An insight into photography in the Armed Forces by Cpl Steve Blake and Cpl Steve Wood, and on 14th April, Toby Melville’s postponed talk on Contemporary News Photography.
