Half a dozen Club members travelled to Steyning last Wednesday evening to support Karen, who had been invited by Steyning Camera Club to give a talk which she entitled “My Journey”. The photographs showed her progression over the past 15 years, from her first competition entry taken on a “point and shoot”, her different styles and mounts, some of which she now admits did not work, through to this season’s winning competition entries.

Karen made the point that you should take photographs for your own enjoyment and not be disheartened if the judge on the night does not like your work, if you enter the same photograph in another competition, it might be that judge’s winner. As one Steyning Club member commented, “if the judge likes it, it’s a bloody miracle”.

The Steyning members were very welcoming and when invited by Karen to ask questions and make comments, they didn’t hold back. It was a very enlightening and entertaining evening, thoroughly enjoyed by the Club members, as well as by her little band of “groupies”.
