The photo shooting club - taken by Nick Jenkins
Five members of the Club spent three days in mid-Wales in the company of Nick Jenkins, a professional landscape and outdoor photographer. His enthusiasm for outdoor photography is infectious and he imparts his knowledge and techniques in a very easy going manner, interspersed with changes of accents and humour. His approach is one of suggestion, rather than formal instruction. “Try this”, “try the long lens and get in close”, “see what happens if you ...”, “wait for the light to strike the trees”.
Nick’s chosen, and favourite, location was around the mountains, rivers and reservoirs of mid-Wales. The location was fantastic with photo opportunities round every corner, made even better by the autumnal colours, dramatic skies, shafts of sunlight and rainbows. It gave us all a chance to shut out the rest of the world and indulge in just taking photographs in the company of like-minded people with Nick on hand to give help and suggestions. It was a most enjoyable and relaxing few days.
Our future approach to landscape photography will ensure that we spend some time looking at the possibilities in a scene, in every direction, and to make sure that the picture tells its own story so that a viewer can see why we took it.
I think it is summed up by Tony Jones’s comment “Would I go on the next Nick Jenkins’s event? Sign me up now!!”
