DIGITAL PROJECTED IMAGE COMPETITION RULES and GUIDELINES

The Projected Digital Image competition category was introduced at the AGM in April 2009, and is in its trial stage for our club at this stage. In time it will no doubt form a main competition category, alongside
prints.

Images that are produced by any digital means and submitted for entry will only be allowed, providing that no other person’s work appears in that image, and if proof is required, then either the original file from the
camera without any modification or manipulation, or the original negative/transparency should be made
available.

A - General conditions for competitions
01) Up to 3 entries per member will be accepted (for internal MCC competitions) and judged, as received,
and viewed by the judge on a computer screen or projector.

02) More entries may be submitted if they are for selection consideration for an inter club event.

03) All parts of the digital image must be the sole work of the entrant.

04) Unless an entrant instructs otherwise, images may be retained by the club for a period of up to two years for use in external competitions, exhibitions and club promotions, as long as the entrant is still a paid up member of the club.

B - Projection
01) The Digital Images will be projected on a fully calibrated Canon XEED SX7 projector with a Laptop running Windows XP / Vista.

02) We will project in sRGB and you are advised to convert from any other colour space. (Go to Edit, Colour settings, Workspace)

03) Mode must be RGB Colour or Grayscale, 8 bits only. (Go to Image, Mode)

C - File Format and Size
00) File Format must be .tiff (no compression) or .jpeg (compression 12). Tiff is preferred.

01) Image Size – maximum 1400 pixels horizontal, maximum 1050 pixels vertical. (Not 1400 vertical please). Please Note – 1400 x 1050 is the native resolution of our projector so these dimensions will give optimum viewing.

02) We will not resize your files. You are welcome to send smaller images which will appear a little smaller on the screen.

03) DPI makes no difference but if you want, you can size at 96 DPI.

04) Images must not contain layers and must be completely ‘flattened’ prior to submission.

D - File Titles (Filename)
01) Your images should be named as follows by the title (a maximum of 20 characters with spaces). followed by your name . followed by the file type with full stops in between.

02) For example
the file name for the image, ‘Misty Loch Ard’ for Joe Smith would be Misty Loch Ard.Joe Smith.tif or Misty Loch Ard.Joe Smith.jpg

03) you may capitalise the title as you wish but please remember the full stops between the three sections.

E – Submitting entries
01) Entries are required 2 weeks before the competition, ie either submit at the previous meeting or drop in to John’s office at Harrison Renwick.

02) You may write / burn your files onto a ‘CD, DVD or USB memory stick, and please make sure that the ‘session is closed’.

03) On the CD write your Name, Phone Number and date for the appropriate competition.

04) Send the CD(s) with the appropriate completed Competition Entry Form(s). Please do not stick any labels onto your CD that are not intended for that use. CDs can be collected at the club meetings.
